Reading through the Gospel of Mark is not unlike reading through a series a well-written blog posts. Mark has something to say—Jesus is the Son of God and we should follow him— and he uses vivid imagery and quick snapshot narratives to tell his story. But Jesus is not a solemn, emotionless, lamb-hugging hippy wandering from town to town in Mark 1. He is a disruptive force challenging religious norms and the grip of evil in the world. If Jesus was an artist then his palette would be filled with not only love but also tension, confusion, and bewilderment.
